September is Pain Awareness Month
September is Pain Awareness Month. Animals are very adept at hiding their pain, so observant owners should watch for subtle signs.
  • Lameness
  • Difficulty jumping onto favorite chairs, or into the car
  • Withdrawn/hiding
  • Reduced grooming or a matted coat (cats)
  • Reluctance to walk on slippery floors (dogs)
  • Reluctance to climb stairs
  • Difficulty laying down or getting up
  • Less playful
  • Hunched posture
  • Reduced playfulness
  • Decreased appetite
  • Abnormal sleep patterns
  • House soiling
  • An aversion to being brushed or touched
There are many things we can do to help alleviate pain in pets. Please, don’t let your pet suffer in silence. If you notice signs of pain, please bring your pet in for a visit.
