Dr. Klovstad joined our team in July of 2018. After graduating from veterinary school, he pursued an additional five years of advanced surgical training, gaining extensive experience in complex orthopedic and soft tissue procedures. He has performed over 1,500 TPLO surgeries and brings a consistent, outcomes-driven approach to every case. His goal is to provide safe, effective surgical care that supports each patient's long-term mobility and quality of life.

Consult Fee Payment of $143.00 is required at the time of scheduling. This covers the full cost of your consultation.

Before the consultation: Send any relevant history or doctor notes to our animal surgery center, including recent bloodwork, current prescribed medications, and any radiographs. The data will allow Dr. Klovstad to review the information before your consultation.

What clients can expect at the Consult Visit

  • 1 Hour Consult with Dr. Klovstad – Including Physical exam, Medical Hx review, and a medical plan specific to their pet's needs
  • On-site Digital Radiology and Lab work, allowing for a full pre-surgical workup
  • The Surgical Coordinator will create an estimate specific to the pet’s surgery & medical plan
  • Dedicated 30-minute discharge Appointment to go over all client questions and patient care needs

Consult and Surgery Timeframe

Orthopedic appointments are typically available within one week for clients traveling from Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse. As canine fracture repair is often time-sensitive, we prioritize these cases and try to schedule them within 24 to 48 hours when possible.
Non-urgent surgeries are generally scheduled within 2-3 weeks, while urgent surgeries are prioritized and usually scheduled within 1-2 weeks, or sooner if necessary.

Dr. Klovstad Surgery Experience

Dr. Klovstad has successfully performed over 1,500 TPLO surgeries and hundreds of orthopedic procedures annually, including advanced canine fracture repairs referred from Buffalo, Syracuse, and the surrounding regions.

Dr. Klovstad Surgery Training

Dr. James Klovstad graduated from St. George's University in 2012. With a strong interest in surgery, he continued for another five years as an intern/resident at the University of Missouri.
