After an exhaustive search in December of 2018, right before Christmas, I landed at the doorstep of Coldwater facing double TPLO surgeries for my 9 year old English Pointer mix. Feeling overwhelmed by both the cost and the rehab associated with not one, but two back-to-back procedures, I was immediately calmed and comfortable with Dr. Klovstad and impressed with his surgical knowledge and expertise. After the initial surgical consultation, I knew he was the one to operate on my beloved fur baby. Not only was I confident in Dr. Klovstad, I was also in awe of how welcoming, compassionate, and understanding the ENTIRE STAFF was towards me as a new client! My pup, Reagan, instantly bonded with Erin, who assisted on both of Reagan’s surgeries, and also went out of her way to update me on her progress. She was a tremendous support during the healing and rehab process. After the success of Reagan’s surgeries and the care received, I knew I was going to remain at Coldwater.

Then, unexpectedly in May of 2019, just a month after Reagan’s full recovery, I found myself facing another big surgery! This time, my other sweet girl, Maizey, had been diagnosed with a thyroid tumor that needed to be removed immediately. Dr. Klovstad and staff truly went WAY above and beyond to arrange for 36 hrs of round the clock post-surgical care so he could perform Maizey’s surgery at Coldwater. I found myself once again overwhelmed with the support and care that we received.

I have since recommended Dr. Klovstad’s surgical skills to a friend. His pup needed a risky procedure and he was not liking the options given at two different animal hospitals. Two weeks later, my friend called to thank me profusely for sending him to Coldwater. He was thrilled with Dr. Klovstad’s surgical plan and outcome. His pup was home and on the mend. Some people are placed in your path at just the right time and for just the right reasons. Dr. Klovstad, Erin and the staff at Coldwater were those people for me. "We are incredibly happy with both of Lucy's TPLO procedures. She has returned to her old self, with no limping or lameness whatsoever. It truly feels like a miracle to see her jumping, running, and playing again.

Before her first surgery, Lucy would limp after playing or resting. We initially tried to convince ourselves it was just a pulled muscle but eventually realized she needed more help. We were hesitant at first due to the cost and recovery time, but Dr. Klovstad made us feel very comfortable with the decision. While the first 2-3 weeks of the first recovery were stressful, the process got easier, and we were very pleased with her rehab at ROC Pet Rehab.

Unfortunately, as we feared, she required surgery on her second leg about a year later. We knew immediately it was the right decision, and surprisingly, the second recovery seemed easier for both Lucy and us. It has now been nine months since that second surgery, and she has had no issues; she can run, fetch, and wrestle with other dogs without any limping.

We highly recommend this surgery and suggest that other pet owners consider insurance, as we were grateful that the second procedure was covered. The Coldwater staff has always been professional and caring, and we especially appreciate Dr. Klovstad’s down-to-earth manner when explaining the imaging and recovery process.
