Caring For Senior Pets
When your pet reaches its senior years, we recommend taking him to the veterinarian twice a year. Older pets tend to have a weaker immune system and are more likely to develop serious illnesses and diseases. Identifying and treating these ailments early on is an important way to prevent them from becoming serious or life-threatening. Our veterinarians recommend that any senior cat or dog undergoes different tests in order to detect any ailments, including:
- Blood work
- Urine tests
- Glaucoma screenings
- Digital radiography
These tests help us determine if your pet is suffering from any underlying issues so that we can detect them early on and treat them for it.
Bloodwork
Blood work is where blood is drawn from your pet so that we can identify any illness or diseases they may be experiencing. These can include diabetes, liver disease, anemia, and kidney disease. Blood work allows us to catch these diseases quickly and before your pet even begins to show symptoms.
Urinalysis
Urinalysis is a test of your animal’s urine. These tests are very useful and can be used to identify any worrying conditions or diseases, including urinary tract infections, diabetes, and liver disease.
Diagnostic Imaging
Diagnostic imaging allows us to see what is going on within your pet and with its internal organs. This is a very important way to identify early signs of certain conditions or diseases.
